Police Arrest Driver after Stolen Vehicle Rams Cruiser in Waterloo
Waterloo Regional Police have charged a male after a stolen Honda struck multiple vehicles, including a police cruiser, in Waterloo.
On April 28, 2025, at approximately 9:20 a.m., with the assistance of a GPS tracker, officers located a stolen Honda Accord in a parking lot in the area of Parkside Drive and Northfield Drive West. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen from a lot on Frobisher Drive.
The male driver of the Honda accelerated and reversed, striking a police cruiser and several other parked vehicles. The vehicle then mounted curbs across the grass and into oncoming lanes of traffic. Due to safety concerns, police did not initiate a pursuit.
Officers found the empty Honda in the area of King Street North and Northfield Drive and located the driver attempting to hide in a nearby building. Upon seeing police, the male tried to run away and was arrested by officers on Davenport Road after a short foot pursuit.
The male, a 44-year-old male from Waterloo, was charged with several offences, including:
- Theft motor vehicle
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Dangerous operation
- Operation of a conveyance while prohibited (two counts)
- Flight from police
- Fail to remain
- Fail to report accident
- Drive while suspended
- Attempt theft under $5,000 (three counts)
The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
