Call police if the collision involves any of the following:

  • Personal injury or death.
  • Any criminal activity, such as an impaired driver, a stolen vehicle, or an assault.
  • A vehicle transporting dangerous goods.
  • A person whose driver's licence is suspended or who is not insured.
  • Damage to private, municipal or highway property.
  • A pedestrian or cyclist.
  • An uncooperative driver.
  • A train or Light Rail Vehicle.
  • A suspect who fails to remain at the scene.

Call us at 519-570-9777 to investigate.

For all other collisions where damage appears to exceed $5,000:

  1. Start a new Online Collision Report and then
  2. Attend the Collision Reporting Centre within 24 hours for your car to be inspected and to finish the report.

The Reporting Process

  1. Check if it is necessary to have the police attend - see the list above.

  2. Remove the vehicles from the road if it is safe to do so.

    1. If a vehicle cannot be moved or is unsafe, call the police at 519-570-9777 and await further instructions.

  3. Exchange information with the other driver(s) and any witnesses.

    1. Ensure you get their name, address, phone number, vehicle and insurance information.

    2. If an officer attends the scene, obtain their name, badge number, and the incident number.

  4. Start an online collision report

  5. Visit the Collision Reporting Centre with your vehicle as soon as possible.

    1. For a more efficient process, everyone involved in the collision should attend the centre at the same time. If your vehicle is being towed, it can only be taken directly to the Maple Grove Road Collision Reporting Centre.

    2. Bring your driver’s licence, vehicle permit, and insurance slip with you.

    3. A representative will review your license, permit, and insurance information to verify their validity. They will then enter your portion of the report into the computer. The damage to the vehicle(s) will be examined and photographed. You will receive a card with the officer’s name and an incident number, which will be needed when you report the damage to your insurer.

Non-Drivable Vehicle

If your vehicle is not drivable, remain at the scene. Contact us at 519-570-9777 for further direction. You will then need to arrange to tow to the Police Reporting Centre on Maple Grove Road. We recommend arranging a tow through the Waterloo Region Towing Association at 519-654-3515
