What You'll Do
Auxiliary Volunteer Constables support community safety, public engagement, and operational activities throughout Waterloo Region. Every assignment offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working alongside WRPS members.
🚦 Traffic Direction
Assist with traffic control and public safety measures at community events, road closures, and special operations.
🎉 Community Events
Support festivals, parades, charitable initiatives, and public events that bring Waterloo Region together.
🔍 Missing Person Searches
Provide support during organized search efforts and assist officers responding to missing person investigations.
👥 Crowd Management
Help maintain safe environments and support public safety planning at large gatherings and special events.
📢 Public Education
Distribute crime prevention resources and engage with residents on community safety initiatives.
🤝 Community Outreach
Build positive relationships with community members and support programs that strengthen public trust and engagement.
Every Assignment Matters
Whether assisting at a community festival, supporting a search operation, directing traffic, or engaging with residents at local events, Auxiliary members play an important role in helping WRPS connect with and serve the community.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Auxiliary Member program, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements.
Basic Eligibility
- ✅ Minimum 18 years of age
- ✅ Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- ✅ Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
- ✅ Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence
- ✅ No more than six (6) demerit points
Additional Requirements
- ✅ Valid Level C CPR / First Aid Certification
- ✅ Medical clearance confirming fitness for duty
- ✅ Successful psychological assessment
- ✅ Successful background investigation
- ✅ Proof of release from previous police or military service (if applicable)

From application to appointment, every candidate progresses through a structured recruitment process designed to identify dedicated community-minded volunteers who are ready to serve Waterloo Region.

Local Focus Assessment
Selected applicants will complete a pre-background questionnaire, personal history information, and attend an assessment designed to evaluate suitability for the Auxiliary role.
Interview
Participate in an interview process that explores your communication skills, ethical decision-making, community involvement, and volunteer experience.
Psychological Assessment
Candidates complete a psychological assessment and interview to evaluate readiness for the responsibilities associated with the Auxiliary program.
Background Investigation
A comprehensive background investigation is conducted, including verification of personal, employment, and reference information.
Offer & Appointment
Successful candidates receive an offer to become an Auxiliary Member and begin onboarding and training with WRPS.
