Police Charge Driver with Fail to Slow Down for Emergency Vehicle in Cambridge
Waterloo Regional Police have charged two drivers after conducting proactive traffic enforcement in Cambridge.
On October 29, 2024, members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service Traffic Services Unit were conducting speed enforcement in the area of McQueen Shaver Boulevard.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., a transport truck pulling a trailer was observed allegedly travelling 107 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone. While the officer was conducting the traffic stop, a driver of a pickup truck sped through the area and nearly struck the officer.
A second officer conducting proactive traffic enforcement in the same area conducted a traffic stop with the pickup truck and determined that the driver was under a driver licence suspension.
As a result of the investigation, the driver of the transport truck, a 24-year-old Cambridge male, was charged with Speeding, Stunt Driving, and Fail to Complete Daily Inspection Report. The male’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the transport truck was seized for 14 days.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 22-year-old male, was charged with Drive While Under Suspension and Fail to Slow for Emergency Vehicle.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service would like to remind drivers to slow down and pass carefully when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle. If a road has two or more lanes and it is safe to move over, you must leave a lane of space between you and the emergency vehicle.
