Police Charge Driver with Impaired-Related Offences after Vehicle Parked on LRT Tracks
Waterloo Regional Police have laid impaired driving-related charges after locating a vehicle parked on light rail transit (LRT) tracks in Waterloo.
On June 14, 2023, at approximately 9 p.m., officers from WRPS’ Direct Action Response Team on proactive patrol in the area of King Street South and William Street West observed an unoccupied vehicle parked on the LRT tracks.
The vehicle was preventing an LRT train from proceeding north on King Street. A short time later, the driver returned, moved their vehicle, and indicated they were not aware they were parked on the tracks.
Further investigation led the officers to suspect that the driver was impaired.
The driver, a 44-year-old female from Kitchener, refused to provide a breath sample and was subsequently arrested and charged with refusal to comply with a demand. She was also charged with interfering with traffic under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
