Police Investigating Dangerous Driving Incident in Downtown Kitchener

UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE:

Waterloo Regional Police have identified and charged a motorcyclist involved in dangerous driving incidents in Kitchener and Waterloo.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 9:10 a.m., a motorcyclist failed to stop at red lights at intersections in the area of Queen Street South and King Street East.

Through investigation and with assistance from information provided by the public, officers subsequently identified the driver involved.

On September 2, 2024, officers in the University District of Waterloo observed a motorcyclist driving at excessive speeds and failing to stop for red lights. The motorcycle was also unplated. Officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and arrested the driver, who was then identified as the driver from the August 17, 2024 incident.

As a result of both incidents, the 18-year-old driver from Kitchener has been charged with 21 offences, including:

  • Dangerous operation (two counts)
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Red light - fail to stop (two counts)
  • Race a motor vehicle
  • Careless driving
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a dangerous driving incident involving a motorcycle in Kitchener.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 9:10 a.m., a motorcyclist failed to stop at red lights at intersections in the area of Queen Street South and King Street East.

Police officers observed the motorcycle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop and evaded police by driving on a sidewalk and through a crosswalk.

A pursuit was not initiated due to public safety concerns.

The motorcycle involved is pictured below and has green rims. It is believed to be a Honda CBR500R.

Driver to Identify 

The driver is described as a male, 20–35 years old, wearing a black soccer jersey with gold lettering, white shoes, and white helmet. He also has a distinct tattoo on his left forearm in red ink.
