Waterloo Regional Police Arrest Five Suspects Following Large Scale Scrap Metal Thefts in Cambridge
Waterloo Regional Police have laid charges in a series of large‑scale scrap metal thefts in Cambridge that resulted in more than $100,000 in losses to a local business.
In early January 2026, officers from South Division’s Direct Action Response Team (DART) began an investigation into a series of scrap metal thefts from a business on Goddard Crescent.
On January 22, 2026, at approximately 11:40 p.m., officers from South Division DART, South Division Street Crimes Team, Central Division DART, the Emergency Response Team, and the Canine Team arrested five males actively removing metal from the business. Police also seized a vehicle as offence-related property.

The males, aged 22, 33, 34, 40, and 55, all from the Greater Toronto Area, have been charged with six counts of theft over $5,000. All of the accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.
This group is believed to be linked to similar high‑value scrap metal thefts across Ontario.
The investigation remains ongoing by South Division’s Direct Action Response Team.
