Waterloo Regional Police Investigating Series of Wire Thefts in Cambridge
Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a series of break-and-enters involving the theft of copper and telecommunications wire from a Cambridge business.
Since March 2026, officers have responded to multiple incidents at a commercial property in the LG Lovell Industrial Park area, where suspects have repeatedly entered a fenced compound and removed wire and scrap metal materials.
On April 11, 2026, at approximately 3:50 a.m., police were contacted after individuals were captured on surveillance video entering the rear yard of a business in the area of Raglin Road and removing copper wire from storage bins. The suspects fled prior to police arrival. Damage to a perimeter fence was observed, and approximately $200 to $500 worth of copper wire was reported stolen.
Investigators believe this incident is connected to two earlier break-and-enters on April 4 and April 6, 2026, where suspects gained access to the same property through a hole cut in the fence. In those incidents, approximately $3,000 worth of telecommunications wire was stolen. The suspects were observed transporting the stolen material using a wagon and fleeing the area on bicycles.
The investigation has also been linked to a March 21, 2026 occurrence, where three individuals entered the property through damaged fencing and stole approximately $2,000 worth of cable containing copper wire.
The incidents are being investigated as part of Waterloo Regional Police’s ongoing initiative targeting scrap metal and wire thefts in Cambridge. The initiative, led by the South Division Crime Suppression, Analysis, and Response Unit, focuses on prevention, enforcement, and education in response to a rise in these types of offences.
Police are encouraging business owners to take preventative measures, including securing materials within locked compounds, ensuring fencing and gates are properly maintained, installing and maintaining surveillance systems, and reporting suspicious activity promptly.
