Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Commercial Fraud Team is investigating an incident of vehicle financing fraud after a vehicle fled from police in Kitchener.

On June 26, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., police attempted to stop a BMW in the area of Wilson Avenue and Wabanaki Drive. Checks of the vehicle’s licence plate indicated that the BMW had been reported stolen outside the region. The driver initially stopped for police, but then fled in the BMW at a high rate of speed towards Hidden Valley Drive.

The BMW was located a short time later, parked on private property in a wooded area.

A Canine Team officer and Police Service Dog Nicho conducted a search and located the driver hiding in the wooded area.

The driver, a 41-year-old Cambridge male, was arrested on three outstanding warrants, and charged with numerous driving offences, fraud-related offences, and failing to comply with multiple release orders.

The accused was held for a show cause hearing.

WRPS’ Commercial Fraud Team is continuing to investigate.
