WRPS Arrest Two Males in Provincewide Child Protection Operation
Waterloo Regional Police have arrested two males as part of Project Orchard, a provincewide initiative targeting online offenders before they can harm children. The project is part of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet (Provincial ICE Strategy), which involves the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, 25 municipal police services, the Ministry of the Attorney General, and the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
On June 12, 2024, a 60-year-old male from Cambridge was arrested and charged with:
- Luring a Child
- Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child
- The male was then rearrested on January 21, 2025, for breaching a release order.
On June 13, 2024, a 34-year-old male from Hamilton was arrested and charged with:
- Agreement and/or Arrangement to Commit a Sexual Offence Against a Child
- Make Child Pornography
- Possess Child Pornography
Following the arrest, investigators completed a search warrant at the male's residence and seized electronic devices. After forensic analysis, he was charged again on August 8, 2024, with additional counts of:
- Possess Child Pornography
- Make Child Pornography
