WRPS' Emergency Response Team Arrests Barricaded Male in Waterloo
Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a male after several hours of negotiations at a residential building in Waterloo.
On July 9, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., police responded to a residence in the area of University Avenue West and Lester Street after receiving a report of a disturbance involving an intoxicated male.
Through investigation, police learned that the male assaulted an individual and then barricaded himself within the residence.
Officers, including the Emergency Response Team, negotiated with the male for several hours before the male was safely taken into custody just before 5:45 p.m. The male was transported to a local hospital for further assessment.
No physical injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Waterloo male was charged with Assault and Mischief Under $5,000.
The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
