WRPS Officers Seize Loaded Firearm after Locating Stolen Vehicle in Waterloo
Waterloo Regional Police have charged a male and a female and seized a loaded firearm after locating a stolen vehicle in Waterloo.
On April 22, 2025, at approximately 10:35 p.m., officers on proactive patrol in the area of King Street South and William Street received an automated license plate recognition (ALPR) alert for a stolen motor vehicle.
Further investigation confirmed that the vehicle, a grey Buick Regal, had been reported stolen.
A traffic stop was conducted near Victoria Street South and Park Street in Kitchener and the driver and passenger were arrested.
During the search of the stolen vehicle, officers located and seized a loaded handgun, a knife, break-in tools, and drugs, including suspected hydromorphone and benzodiazepine.
As a result of the investigation, the driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old Hamilton male, was charged with:
- Possession of Firearms Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Careless Storage
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Carry Concealed Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of Firearm knowing its Unauthorized (two counts)
- Unauthorized Possession in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Prohibited/Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence
- Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000
- Possession of Break in Instruments
- Possession of Schedule I Substance (five counts)
The male was also wanted by WRPS on charges of theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a conveyance in connection to an incident on April 16, 2025, in Waterloo.
The passenger, a 35-year-old London female, was charged with Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm, Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000, Possession of Break in Instruments, and Possession of Schedule I Substance.
The male and female were further wanted on warrants with the London Police Service.
The accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.
