WRPS Partners with Ontario Police Services for Commercial Motor Vehicle Blitz in Kitchener
On June 19 and 20, 2024, Waterloo Regional Police Service partnered with Guelph Police Service, Brantford Police Service, Halton Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Transportation, and Ministry of Finance for a joint commercial motor vehicle enforcement initiative.
The traffic enforcement was conducted in the areas throughout the region, including areas near Highway 401.
In total, 210 commercial motor vehicles were inspected by Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified inspectors.
78 vehicles were taken out of service for a 37% out-of-service rate.
14 sets of licence plates were removed, and police laid 142 charges for offences including:
- Insecure load
- Defective brakes
- Unsafe vehicles
- No CVOR (commercial vehicle operator's registration)
- Fail to complete daily inspection report
- Overweight load
- Insecure dangerous goods
- Drive major defect
- Improper driver’s licence
