WRPS' Direct Action Response Team Seizes Loaded Gun after Traffic Stop in Waterloo

Direct Action Response Team Investigation

Officers from Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Direct Action Response Team (DART) have seized a loaded handgun and drugs after a traffic stop in Waterloo.

On September 5, 2024, at approximately 9:35 p.m., DART officers on proactive patrol conducted a traffic stop in the area of Fischer-Hallman Road and University Avenue West.

Through investigation, officers determined the driver was driving while under suspension and placed him under arrest.

During the search of the vehicle, officers located and seized suspected methamphetamine, identity documents, brass knuckles, a conducted energy weapon, and a loaded handgun.

As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old Cambridge male was charged with:

  • Possession of an Identity Document
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon (two counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon or Firearm contrary to a prohibition order (three counts)
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
