WRPS Investigating Suspicious Fire in Kitchener

Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate a residential fire in Kitchener.

On August 16, 2024, at approximately 8:55 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a home in the area of Birch Avenue and Union Street.

Kitchener Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire.

Two residents were present in the home at the time of the fire.

One of the residents, a 60-year-old male, needed to be rescued from the residence after sustaining serious injuries. He was initially transported to a local hospital by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services and has since been transferred to an out-of-region hospital.

The other resident, a 54-year-old male, was able to exit the home safely and did not sustain any physical injuries.

The fire is considered suspicious, and the investigation is ongoing by WRPS’ Intimate Partner Violence and General Investigations Units in partnership with the Office of the Fire Marshal.
