To help prevent becoming a victim of a similar scam, consider the following tips:
Legitimate companies will never request credit card numbers or banking information over the phone. If you are unsure, hang up and call the company back using the number on an official website or bill.
Do not provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers. Scammers often use pressure tactics, time-sensitive offers, or “loyalty discounts” to convince you to act quickly.
Monitor your financial statements regularly for unauthorized transactions. Report suspicious activity to your bank immediately.
