WRPS' Major Crime Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting in Kitchener
UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE:
Waterloo Regional Police have arrested two males in connection to fatal shooting in the Alpine area of Kitchener.
On November 30, 2024, at approximately 3:55 p.m., police responded to the area of Ottawa Street South and Homer Watson Boulevard after receiving reports of gunshots fired.
Upon arrival, police located a male with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The victim, a 39-year-old male, was transported to an out-of-region hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, on July 29, 2025, police arrested and charged Muhamad Taupan, a 19-year-old Waterloo male with First Degree Murder. The accused remains in custody.
On July 30, 2025, police arrested and charged Omar Bashir, a 22-year-old Ottawa male with Accessory After the Fact to Murder. The accused remains in custody.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service would like to thank the Peel Regional Police Service, Ottawa Police Service, Toronto Police Service, Windsor Police Service, Peterborough Police Service, and the Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) unit for their assistance in apprehending the suspects.

Investigators believe this was a targeted incident.
The suspect is described as a male, wearing a black coat, light-coloured pants, and black shoes.

The investigation is ongoing by WRPS’ Major Crime, General Investigations, and Forensic Identification Units.
There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area as investigators conduct a canvass for witnesses and information.
