The Hiring Process
The civilian hiring process takes time. The process could take anywhere from three weeks to three months depending on the number of applicants, the number of positions available, and the position itself. If you require accommodation in completing the application process, or with any portion of the application process or interview, please contact us.

Pre-Screening
Our Talent Acquisition team will review all applications against the qualifications outlined in the job posting and job description. As part of this process, a telephone interview may be conducted to clarify further and assess the knowledge, skills, and education presented in your application.

Assessment
Assessment requirements vary by position and are designed to evaluate the specific skills and knowledge relevant to the role for which you have applied. Some positions may involve multiple stages of testing. Candidates must successfully meet the established benchmark at each stage to progress to the following assessment and continue in the selection process.

Interview
Candidates who successfully pass the assessment stage will be invited to attend a structured behavioural interview. This interview is designed to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the position for which you have applied. It will include both competency-based and scenario-based questions. The interview panel typically consists of a representative from the Talent Acquisition team, the Hiring Manager, and an additional panel member. Please note that certain positions may involve multiple rounds of interviews. If a second interview is required, you will be notified in advance. Candidates must meet the established benchmark in the interview process to proceed to the next stage of the selection process.

Security Clearance and Background Investigation
Candidates who successfully complete the interview process will proceed to the security clearance and background investigation stage. This process requires the completion of necessary forms and written consent. A background investigator will contact the candidate to initiate the investigation. The Waterloo Regional Police Service conducts a comprehensive background check and security clearance to ensure alignment with our mission, vision, and core values. Candidates must pass this stage to continue in the recruitment process.

Offer of Employment
Upon successful completion of all stages in the recruitment process, you will be extended a formal Offer of Employment. This offer will outline key details, including your start date, salary, and employment conditions.
At this stage, you will also be required to complete the necessary new employee documentation. We look forward to officially welcoming you to the Waterloo Regional Police Service team.
