Police Charge Drive with Impaired Driving After Traffic Stop in Cambridge

Waterloo Regional Police have charged a driver with impaired driving following a traffic stop in Cambridge.

On June 16, 2026, members of the WRPS’ Traffic Services Unit were conducting speed enforcement in the area of Dundas Street South and Champlain Boulevard. 

At approximately 1:55 a.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling 130 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone on Dundas Street South. A traffic stop was conducted and during the investigation it was determined that the young and novice driver had been consuming alcohol, and a roadside screen test was conducted.

The driver failed the roadside test and was arrested for impaired driving. 

As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old Cambridge male was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired- block alcohol concentration 
  • Stunt driving
  • Speeding
  • Careless driving
  • Novice driver- BAC above zero
  • Young driver- BAC above zero 

The accused driver license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
