Police Investigating after Trailer Loaded with Pistachios Stolen in Wilmot Township

UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE:

Waterloo Regional Police have made an arrest in connection to the theft of walnuts from a Cambridge business.

On November 5, 2023, a transport truck and trailer containing walnuts were stolen from the yard of a business located in the area of Eagle Street North and Hespeler Road in Cambridge. 

The stolen trailer and walnuts were subsequently recovered in Milton by Halton Regional Police Service on December 13, 2023, and returned to the business.

On December 29, 2023, walnuts valued at approximately $26,000 were stolen again from the trailer.

In February 2024, WRPS investigators, with assistance from the Hamilton Police Service, recovered some of the stolen walnuts, valued at approximately $11,000.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, on October 17, 2024, members of WRPS' General Investigations Unit arrested and charged a 68-year-old Kitchener male with possession of stolen property over $5,000. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on November 27, 2024.

Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate the theft of a transport truck and trailer in Wilmot Township. 

On January 20, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., unknown suspects stole a transport truck and a trailer loaded with pistachios from the yard of a business located in the area of Foundry Street and Gingerich Road.

The estimated value of the stolen pistachios is approximately $70,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

This incident was the second recent nut-related vehicle theft in the region. On November 5, 2023, a transport truck and trailer containing walnuts were stolen from the yard of a business located in the area of Eagle Street North and Hespeler Road in Cambridge.
