Whether you're considering a career in policing or simply curious about the diverse roles within WRPS, this event will help you envision where your passions and skills can take you.

A Full Day Experience

Throughout the day, you will hear from members working in Patrol, Investigative Services, Human Trafficking, Hate Crime, Emergency Response, Identification, and Recruiting. They'll provide meaningful insight into the diverse roles within policing and the many opportunities available. Whether you’re just starting to explore policing or looking to take the next step, this day is designed to inform, inspire, and connect you with the teams helping keep our community safe.

Examining Hate Incidents Through a Real‑World Case Study

The conference will also feature a special case study presentation on the 2023 hate-motivated incident which occurred at the University of Waterloo. This event drew international attention and placed a spotlight on how WRPS responds to, classifies, and communicates about hate‑motivated violence. The Service’s handling of the incident demonstrated professionalism, transparency, and a commitment to naming hate crime for what it is. It also amplified the importance of having a police service equipped culturally, operationally, and demographically to address these crimes with credibility and care. The case will help to explore a role in a career dedicated to community safety, inclusion, and combating hate.

Envision Yourself in Policing

In alignment with the Community Safety and Policing Act, police services strive to represent the diversity of the communities they serve. WRPS welcomes individuals of all identities who are interested in a meaningful career in policing, and especially those who want to make a difference and see themselves represented within the Service.

This event is open to everyone interested in a policing career, especially individuals with lived experience who want to make a difference combatting hate-based crimes and those who are committed to making a difference in their communities.
