Police Charge Driver after Fleeing from Traffic Stop in Wilmot Township
Officers from Waterloo Regional Police Service's North Patrol Division have charged a driver after he fled from a traffic stop in Wilmot Township.
On January 9, 2025, at approximately 2:50 a.m., police attempted to stop a grey Dodge Caravan with licence plates that did not belong on the vehicle. The vehicle initially pulled over on Wilmot Line near Wilby Road and then fled.
A short time later, officers located the Dodge in the area of Salzburg Drive and Munich Circle in Waterloo and placed the driver under arrest.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 42-year-old Waterloo male, was charged with several criminal and provincial offences, including:
- Flight from peace officer
- Dangerous operation
- Take motor vehicle without consent
- Operation while prohibited (two counts)
- Failure to comply with an undertaking
- Possession of a Schedule I substance
- Driving while under suspension (two counts)
The accused party was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
