Police Charge Male after Residential Fire in Cambridge

Waterloo Regional Police have charged a male in Cambridge after a fire inside a residence on Beverly Street.

On June 2, 2026, at approximately 1:45 p.m., police received a report of a male wanted on warrant at a multi-unit residence in the area of Beverly Street and Dundas Street North.

Officers arrived at the residence and began communicating with the wanted male from outside the home.

During the interaction, officers observed an active fire inside the residence. Officers forced entry to a door of the unit, located the male, and removed him to safety.

The 59-year-old male was transported to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

No one else was inside the unit at the time of the fire, and no other physical injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation, the male has been charged with multiple criminal offences, including:

  • Arson – disregard for human life
  • Arson – damage to property
  • Possession of incendiary material
  • Utter threats to cause death
  • Utter threats to cause damage to property
  • Failure to comply with a judicial order (three counts)

There is no ongoing risk to public safety. There will be an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
