Police Investigate Bear Spray Incident at Fairview Park Mall

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating an incident involving a noxious substance at Fairview Park Mall in Kitchener.

On January 9, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m., police responded to Fairview Park Mall after receiving reports of individuals being sprayed with bear spray.

The victims did not sustain life‑threatening injuries and were not transported to hospital.

Following an investigation, a 16‑year‑old male youth was arrested and charged with Administering a Noxious Substance, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Assault with a Weapon, and Weapons Dangerous.

The parties involved are believed to be known to one another, and investigators believe this to be a targeted incident.

As a precaution, Fairview Park Mall was evacuated and remained closed for the remainder of the evening.
