Police Make Arrest in Projector Sales Scam Investigation
Waterloo Regional Police have laid charges in connection to a projector sales scam targeting residents throughout Waterloo Region.
Between August 26 and September 18, 2026, police received five reports of individuals attempting to sell projectors at significantly discounted prices near post-secondary campuses. In these incidents, low-cost projectors were rebranded and marketed as high-end models in an effort to deceive potential buyers.
As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old male from Burlington has been arrested and charged with 11 criminal offences, including fraud over $5,000, fraud under $5,000, and utter forged document.
The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
Investigators are reminding residents to be cautious of unsolicited offers that appear too good to be true and to avoid providing cash, e-transfers, or personal information to individuals they do not know.
