Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a male following an arson in Kitchener.

On August 2, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a male who had lit a residence on fire in the area of Courtland Avenue East and Hillmount Street. 

Officers arrived and located the front area of a unit engulfed in flames. Officers evacuated the neighbouring units and located the suspect, who was arrested. 

As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old male was arrested and charged with:

• Arson- Disregard for Human Life. 

The accused was held for bail. 

There were no physical injuries reported.
