Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a male following a dangerous driving incident in Woolwich Township.

On July 30, 2026, at approximately 11 a.m., police responded to the area of Lobsinger Line and Three Bridges Road for a wellbeing check involving a male reported to be in distress.

When officers arrived, the male fled the area in a vehicle. Officers did not pursue.

A short time later, police received reports of a vehicle being driven dangerously in the area of Three Bridges Road and Henry Street. During the incident, the vehicle nearly struck a pedestrian and was driven through a corn field.

Police located the vehicle abandoned nearby. 

With assistance from WRPS’ Canine Team and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), officers located the male on an island in the Conestogo River and subsequently arrested him.

A 31-year-old Waterloo male has been charged with:

• Dangerous Operation
• Flight From Peace Officer
• Five counts of Operation While Prohibited
• Obstruct peace officer
• Possession of an Identity Document

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
