Waterloo Regional Police Continue to Investigate a Kitchener Shooting Incident
UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE:
Waterloo Regional Police have laid charges in a homicide investigation.
On September 27, 2023, at approximately 2 a.m., police responded to the area of Ottawa Street North and River Road East after receiving a report of a shooting incident.
A 21-year-old male was located and later pronounced deceased at an out-of-region hospital.
On April 25, 2025, WRPS investigators arrested a male and female in connection to this incident.
A 22-year-old Kitchener male has been charged with:
- Criminal Negligence Cause Death
- Failure to Comply with Release Order
- Robbery with Firearm
A 22-year-old Kitchener female has been charged with Accessory after the Fact.
The accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a death involving a firearm in Kitchener.
On September 27, 2023, at approximately 2 a.m., police responded to the area of Ottawa Street North and River Road East after receiving a report of a shooting incident.
Upon arrival, police located a male in his mid-twenties with injuries sustained from the incident. The victim was transported to an out of region hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation is ongoing by members of our Major Crime Unit, General Investigations Unit, and Forensic Identification Unit.
Our Major Crime Unit continues to follow up on investigative leads, and further updates will be provided when available.
There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area as police conduct a canvass of the neighbourhood for witnesses and information.
Businesses in the area could be impacted by the investigation.
