Waterloo Regional Police Continue to Investigate Shooting and Kidnapping Incident
Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate a shooting incident that occurred in the area of Courtland Avenue and Hayward Avenue in Kitchener on July 18, 2026.
Officers responded to a residence in the area at approximately 3:30 a.m. after receiving information that a male sustained injuries from a gunshot wound. The male victim left the residence prior to police arrival.
Through investigation, police learned that the male suspect also forced a female victim and her child into a vehicle. The vehicle was later located in the area of Weber Street and Albert Street in Waterloo. A traffic stop was attempted, but the suspect fled the vehicle and a foot pursuit was initiated. The suspect was later located with the assistance of the Canine Unit and the Emergency Response Team. A firearm was located in the vehicle.
The female victim and the child were located and were not physically injured.
A 33-year-old Waterloo male was arrested and held for a bail hearing. He has been charged with several offences, including Fail to Comply with Probation, Disobey Court Order, and Use of a Firearm in Commission of Offence – Kidnapping.
Investigators were able to locate the male victim and confirmed his well-being.
The parties are known to one another.
