Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Break, Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (BEAR) Unit are investigating an attempted ATM theft in Kitchener.

On August 30, 2026, at approximately 3 a.m., unknown suspects attended a financial institution in the area of Fischer-Hallman Road and Huron Road and used a front-end loader to breach the exterior wall of the building in an attempt to remove an ATM.

As the suspects were attempting to steal the ATM, police arrived on scene.

The suspects fled in a newer-model white pickup truck and collided with a responding police cruiser while leaving the area.

Through the investigation, officers determined the front-end loader used in the incident had recently been stolen. Investigators also located a second stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the financial institution.

Police believe this was a targeted incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
