Waterloo Regional Police are investigating an incident involving bear spray in Waterloo.

On September 11, 2026, at approximately 2:50 a.m., police responded to a report of a male who had been sprayed with bear spray in the area of Erb Street West and King Street North.

The victim was treated at the scene by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services.

Through the investigation, officers learned the victim had intervened in an altercation involving a male and female. During the interaction, the male suspect allegedly sprayed the victim with bear spray before leaving the area.

The investigation remains ongoing.
