Waterloo Regional Police Investigating Frauds Targeting Elderly Victims Across the Region
Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate a series of fraud incidents targeting elderly residents throughout the Region of Waterloo.
In these incidents, unknown suspects contacted victims by phone, posing as representatives from fraud departments at financial institutions. The suspects claimed the victims’ debit or credit cards had been cloned and were required for further testing.
Victims were instructed to place their banking cards in an envelope, which would then be picked up by a “driver.” Once in possession of the cards, the suspects used them to make unauthorized purchases and withdrawals.
At this time, the suspects remain unidentified and the investigation is ongoing.
Police are looking to identify and speak to the individual in the images in connection to these investigations.
