Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Break and Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) Unit are investigating a residential break and enter in Waterloo.

On September 16, 2026, between approximately 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., unknown suspects broke into a residence in the area of Clair Creek Boulevard and Bushwood Court.

Investigators believe the suspects gained entry through the rear of the residence.

Police are continuing to notice a trend involving residential break and enters where suspects target homes backing onto greenspaces, trails, parks, and wooded areas. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and consider additional security measures to help protect their homes.

To help reduce the risk of becoming a victim, Waterloo Regional Police recommend:

• Keeping doors and windows locked, even when at home.
• Installing audible alarm systems.
• Securing residences with video surveillance cameras at the front and rear of the property.
• Considering the use of trail cameras if the property backs onto greenspace, trails, parks, or wooded areas.
• Notifying trusted neighbours when away for extended periods and arranging for someone to check on the residence.
• Reporting suspicious persons or vehicles to police.

As part of the investigation, officers are asking residents and motorists who may have dash camera, residential security camera, or other video footage to review their recordings and provide any relevant footage.

Investigators are specifically seeking footage from the areas of Clair Creek Boulevard and Bushwood Court between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on September 16, 2026.

Waterloo Regional Police are also reminding residents about CamSafe, a voluntary program that allows residents and businesses to register their security cameras. In the event of a crime or public safety concern, investigators can identify registered cameras in the area and contact owners to request footage. Police do not have direct access to any registered cameras.

The investigation remains ongoing.
