Waterloo Regional Police Seek Assistance Identifying Suspect Following Vehicle Theft in Elmira

Waterloo Regional Police have laid charges after a vehicle was stolen from a gas station in Elmira.
On September 5, 2026, at approximately 9:20 p.m., a witness observed a male steal an unoccupied vehicle from a gas station in Elmira.
On September 8, 2026, at approximately 5 p.m., police arrested a male after he was observed driving the stolen vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old male from Woolwich Township has been charged with several offences, including:
- Motor Vehicle Theft
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited (four counts)
- Driving While Under Suspension (two counts).
The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service encourages residents to consider the following vehicle theft prevention measures:
- Block access to the onboard diagnostic port to help prevent thieves from reprogramming key fobs.
- Use a steering wheel locking device.
- Store key fobs in a radio-frequency shielding pouch when not in use.
- Install an aftermarket GPS tracking device to assist with vehicle recovery.
- Ensure all keys are accounted for and never leave keys inside a vehicle.
- Report suspicious persons or behaviour to police immediately.
