Waterloo Regional Police have charged a Durham male after a hit-and-run collision in Kitchener.

On November 23, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., emergency services responded to the area Fairway Road and the Highway 8 ramp for reports of a collision.

Upon arrival, first responders and witnesses observed a male exit one of the involved vehicles and flee into a nearby field. The male was seen carrying a young child.

Due to concerns for the wellbeing of the child and the male, a ground search was completed by Patrol Officers, the Emergency Response Team, and Canine Team. Officers were unable to locate the individuals and continued the investigation.

Officers later determined the male and child were picked up by a vehicle and returned to their out-of-region residence.

On November 24, 2024, officers contacted the male and met with him in Waterloo Region. Through a wellbeing check, officers confirmed there were no physical injuries to the male or the three-year-old child the male was seen with.

The 25-year-old male has been charged with numerous Highway Traffic Act offences in relation to the incident, including fail to remain.

There were no reports of any physical injures to all involved parties.
