WRPS' Cybercrime Unit Lays Charges
In September 2025, the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Cybercrime – Internet Child Exploitation Unit began an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material (CSAEM; formerly child pornography) after receiving information regarding a Kitchener resident from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC).
As a result of the investigation, on January 6, 2026, police arrested an 82-year-old Kitchener male for two counts of possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing. The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding suspected online child exploitation is encouraged to contact police at 519-570-9777 or submit information anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.waterloocrimestoppers.com.
