Posted on: Monday May 25
Location: North Dumfries
Occurrence #: WA26075304

On May 24, 2026, at approximately 8:10 p.m., police attended a residence in North Dumfries after receiving a report that a youth had pointed a firearm at another youth during a dispute.

Through the investigation, officers learned that the incident occurred following a verbal altercation between the individuals on a residential street. The involved youth briefly pointed a long gun at the victim before lowering it. No physical injuries were reported.

Police attended a nearby residence where the youth resides and confirmed that firearms were present in the home. Officers determined that the firearm involved had been stored in a gun safe; however, it is believed the youth was able to access the safe. The firearm was not loaded at the time of the incident.

As a result of the investigation, two firearms, ammunition, and a firearms licence were seized for safekeeping pending a court process. Due to the age of the youth involved, no criminal charges have been laid at this time.

Waterloo Regional Police remind firearm owners of their legal responsibility to ensure all firearms are securely stored and inaccessible to unauthorized individuals.
