WRPS Warning the Public of Fraudulent Taxi Scams in the Region

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a series of Taxi Frauds that occurred in Waterloo Region.

On July 13, 2025, police responded to multiple reports of a male and female posing as a taxi driver and customer. 

The suspects would engage with victims in public locations asking them to provide their debit card information to the taxi driver in exchange for cash. Once the transaction was complete the suspects would have access to the victim’s bank account and withdraw all available money through multiple avenues.

Waterloo Regional Police are requesting the public be aware of the ongoing transportation frauds throughout the region. 
Do not provide your debit card information to anyone, for any reason, and in particular anyone asking with assistance paying for their fare.
