Waterloo Regional Police have charged several youths after a collision involving a stolen truck in Cambridge.

On May 17, 2025, at approximately 11:40 p.m., police responded to Waterworks Park in West Galt for reports of a truck driving across a baseball field, striking a light post, and getting stuck. It was reported that five youths tried to dislodge the vehicle by pushing on it as its wheels spun, causing the light post to fall.

Upon the arrival of police, the youths fled on foot through the park. Officers arrested one of the involved parties, a 19-year-old Cambridge female. The remaining youths fled over a fence.

Police then located and arrested a youth who was determined to be under 12 years of age. Due to the youth’s age, they were later released into the custody of their parents.

The three remaining youths attempted to flee from police by crossing the Grand River. One of the youths became stuck in the middle of the river and was rescued by the Cambridge Fire Department, utilizing their water rescue boat. The youth, a 13-year-old Cambridge male, was subsequently arrested by police.

The other two youths were confirmed to have exited the river safely and were not located by police. Warrants for their arrests have been requested.

The investigation determined that the truck was stolen.

There were no physical injuries as a result of this incident.

The 13-year-old Cambridge male was charged with Dangerous Operation, Possession of Stolen Goods over $5,000, Fail to Comply with Undertaking (two counts). At the time of his arrest, he was wanted on a warrant for Break and Enter. He was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The 19-year-old Cambridge female was charged with Dangerous Operation and Possession of Stolen Goods over $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on June 24, 2025.
