Police Charge Driver with Possession of Stolen Property after Traffic Stop in Cambridge

Waterloo Regional Police have charged a driver with possession of stolen property after a traffic stop in Cambridge. 

On March 5, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m., a South Division officer was on proactive patrol in the area of Cedar Creek Road and Industrial Road North in North Dumfries Township when they received an Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alert for a stolen vehicle. The officer identified the vehicle, confirmed the license plate, and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle in a parking lot on Preston Parkway in Cambridge.

Through investigation, police determined the vehicle was owned by the driver but was being operated with license plates that had been reported stolen. The driver also lacked valid insurance, and the vehicle had improper rear lighting.

The driver, a 44-year-old male from Oxford County, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Stolen Goods Under $5,000
  • Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
  • Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance
  • Drive Without Proper Rear Light
