Police Continue to Investigate Swatting Incident at Kitchener High School
Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a swatting incident at a Kitchener high school.
On March 9, 2026, at approximately 9:20 a.m., police responded to reports of an individual inside Grand River Collegiate Institute with a gun.
Officers responded and cleared the school. Through investigation, it was determined that the reported incident had not occurred.
The call is being treated as a swatting incident – a false report made to trigger an emergency police response.
The school was placed in lockdown while officers conducted their investigation, but it has since been lifted. Neighbouring schools were also put into a hold and secure, which has also been lifted.
This is believed to have been a targeted incident. The investigation remains ongoing by WRPS’ General Investigations Unit.
