Waterloo Regional Police Investigate Suspicious Device at Kitchener Gas Station
Waterloo Regional Police have concluded an investigation after responding to a report of a suspicious device at a gas station in Kitchener.
On May 5, 2026, at approximately 8 p.m., police were contacted after an employee located an item on a gas pump at a gas station in the area of King Street East and Sportsworld Crossing Road.
Officers attended the scene and, as a precaution, evacuated the business and surrounding area. Gas pumps were shut down using the emergency shutoff, and the Kitchener Fire Department was placed on standby due to the nature of the location.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Explosives Disposal Unit was consulted, and officers conducted a thorough assessment of the item. The device was determined to pose no risk.
Emergency services cleared the scene, and the business was reopened.
Investigators found no evidence to suggest the item was placed with malicious intent or to cause public alarm. There are no ongoing concerns for public safety related to this incident.
