WRPS Arrest Male after Responding to Weapons Incident in Kitchener
Waterloo Regional Police make arrest after responding to a weapons incident in Kitchener.
On February 12, 2025, at approximately 12:15 p.m., a male entered a store in the area of Highland Road West and Westmount Road West. The male went behind the counter, selected merchandise and attempted to leave the store without paying. Two employees intervened and tried stopping the male from leaving when the male displayed a knife. The employees became fearful for their safety and the male fled the store. Police were not contacted at this time.
On February 12, 2025, at approximately 1:20 p.m., the male assaulted a victim with a knife while at the intersection of Highland Road West and Westmount Road West. The victim broke free and ran to a place of safety. Police received multiple calls and responded. Officers located the male nearby and arrested him.
The victim, a 23-year-old Kitchener male was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The victim and the male are believed to be known to one another.
While investigating this incident, officers became aware of the initial robbery incident and members of the WRPS’ Robbery Team took carriage of both investigations.
As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with the following:
- Robbery with a weapon
- Aggravated assault
- Weapons dangerous (two counts)
- Possession of stolen property under $5,000
- Fail to comply with release order
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
