In February 2025, the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Cybercrime- Internet Child Exploitation Unit began an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material (formerly Child Pornography) after receiving information regarding a Kitchener resident from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC).

As a result of the investigation, on June 25, 2026, officers completed a search warrant at a Kitchener residence, and a 25-year-old male was arrested and charged with:

• Possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material (two counts) 
• Making child sexual abuse and exploitation material available 

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
