Waterloo Regional Police Remind Public to Secure Valuables Following Thefts from Vehicles
Waterloo Regional Police are reminding residents to secure valuables and remove personal information from their vehicles following reports of thefts from vehicles in Waterloo Region.
On August 13, 2026, police received multiple reports of vehicles being entered in heavily populated employee parking lots.
Investigators have learned that wallets and other valuables were targeted during these incidents. In addition to the immediate loss of property, stolen identification and financial cards can be used to facilitate further fraud and identity-related offences.
The incidents are part of a larger, multi-jurisdictional investigation involving police services across Ontario. Since July 2026, investigators have identified nearly 30 victims connected to similar occurrences.
Police are reminding the public to take the following precautions:
- Do not leave wallets, purses, identification, financial cards, cash, or other valuables inside your vehicle.
- Remove all valuables from plain view before leaving your vehicle unattended.
- Ensure vehicle doors are locked and windows are closed.
- Report suspicious activity immediately.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to contact Waterloo Regional Police at 519-570-9777.
