Waterloo Regional Police Continue to Investigate Attempt Vehicle Theft in Cambridge

Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate an attempted vehicle theft in Cambridge. 

On August 24, 2026, at approximately 4:40 a.m., a witness observed a male attempting to steal a vehicle on Brook Street near Wellington Street. During the confrontation, the suspect brandished a firearm tucked into the front waistband of his pants. 

There were no physical injuries reported.

Investigators are looking to identify and speak to the individual pictured in the photo in connection to this incident.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact WRPS' Break and Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) at 519-570-9777, extension 8255.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service encourages residents to consider the following theft‑prevention measures:

  • Block access to the onboard diagnostic port to prevent thieves from reprogramming key fobs.
  • Use a steering wheel locking device.
  • Store key fobs inside a radio‑frequency shielding pouch when not in use.
  • Install an aftermarket GPS tracker to assist in vehicle recovery.
  • Ensure all keys are accounted for and never left in the vehicle.
  • Report suspicious persons or behaviour immediately.
