Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Break and Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) Unit are investigating two residential break and enters in Cambridge.

On August 26, 2026, between approximately 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., unknown suspects broke into two residences in the area of Patton Drive and Bartleman Crescent.

Investigators believe the suspects gained entry by smashing rear glass doors before entering the homes.

Police are noticing a trend involving residential break and enters where suspects target homes that back onto greenspaces, trails, parks, or wooded areas. Investigators are reminding residents in these areas to take additional precautions to help protect their property.

Police are encouraging residents to:

• Keep doors and windows locked, even when at home.
• Install audible alarm systems.
• Secure residences with video surveillance cameras at the front and rear of the property.
• Consider using trail cameras if the property backs onto greenspace, trails, parks, or wooded areas.
• Notify trusted neighbours when away for an extended period and arrange for someone to check on the residence.
• Report suspicious persons or vehicles to police immediately.

As part of the investigation, officers are asking residents and motorists who were in the area to review any dash camera, residential security camera, or other video footage recorded between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on August 26, 2026.

Police are specifically seeking footage from:

• Bartleman Crescent
• Patton Drive
• McFarlane Drive
• Houghton Street
• Maryann Price Lane

The investigation remains ongoing.
