Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Break and Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) Unit are investigating a residential break and enter in Kitchener.

On August 29, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., homeowners returned to their residence in the Driftwood Drive area and discovered a break and enter in progress.

Investigators believe the suspect(s) gained entry by smashing a rear glass door.

This is the second residential break and enter reported in this neighbourhood in August 2026. Police are noticing a trend involving suspects gaining entry through rear doors of homes, particularly residences backing onto greenspaces, trails, parks, and wooded areas.

Police are encouraging residents to take the following steps to help prevent residential break-ins:

• Keep doors and windows locked, even when at home.
• Install audible alarm systems.
• Secure residences with video surveillance cameras at the front and rear of the property.
• Consider using trail cameras if the property backs onto greenspace, trails, parks, or wooded areas.
• Notify trusted neighbours when away for an extended period and arrange for someone to check on the residence.
• Report suspicious persons or vehicles to police.

As part of the investigation, officers are asking residents and motorists who were in the area and may have dash camera, residential security camera, or other video footage to review their recordings and submit any relevant footage.

Residents in the following areas are asked to check their cameras between 9:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on August 29, 2026:

• Royal Orchard Drive
• Toynbee Crescent
• Deerwood Crescent
• Royal Orchard Place
