Waterloo Regional Police Investigating Debit Card Fraud in Kitchener

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a fraud in Kitchener after a victim’s debit card was switched during a transaction.

On September 30, 2026, at approximately 8:10 p.m., the victim was approached by an unknown male near the Fairway Station and asked to use a debit card to assist with a payment in exchange for cash.

The victim later discovered that their debit card had been switched during the transaction and approximately $400 in unauthorized transactions had been made.

The suspect is described as a male in his 20s, with an average build. He was wearing a white shirt, grey pants, and a chain necklace.

A second individual was associated with a black four-door sedan.

The investigation remains ongoing.

To help protect yourself from similar frauds:

  • Keep your debit or credit card in sight during transactions.
  • Avoid using your card to make payments for unknown individuals in exchange for cash.
  • Check that the card returned to you after a transaction is yours.
  • Shield the keypad when entering your personal identification number.
  • Regularly review your banking activity and immediately report suspicious transactions to your financial institution.
